Sepia bandensis, commonly known as the Dwarf Cuttlefish, is a fascinating cephalopod species prized for its intelligence and unique behaviour. This listing offers eggs per bunch in various sizes, perfect for marine aquarists interested in breeding and raising these captivating invertebrates.
Care and Husbandry: Sepia bandensis requires a well-maintained marine aquarium with stable water parameters. A minimum tank size of 100 litres is recommended to provide adequate space for growth and swimming. Water quality should be pristine, with regular monitoring of ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and pH levels.
Feeding should begin once hatchlings emerge, offering live or freshly thawed small crustaceans such as mysis shrimp or amphipods. Juveniles and adults benefit from a varied diet including live feeder shrimp and small fish. Due to their predatory nature, compatibility with small tank mates is limited; avoid housing with small, slow-moving invertebrates or fish that may be seen as prey.
Reef Compatibility: Sepia bandensis is reef safe with caution. They may prey on small invertebrates and can disturb delicate reef structures. It is advisable to keep them in species-specific or mixed marine tanks without vulnerable reef inhabitants.
Special Considerations: Handling eggs and hatchlings requires care to avoid damage. Maintain stable temperature between 24-27°C and moderate water flow to simulate natural conditions. Provide ample hiding places and substrate for egg attachment and juvenile shelter.
Raising Sepia bandensis from eggs is a rewarding but advanced endeavour, suited to dedicated marine aquarists with experience in cephalopod care.
