Parupeneus macronemus, commonly known as the Longbar Goatfish, is a visually captivating marine fish prized for its vibrant colours and distinctive barbels used for foraging. This small variant is suitable for experienced hobbyists with adequately sized tanks.
Care Level: Moderate care is recommended due to its active nature and specific habitat needs.
Temperament: Generally peaceful but can be territorial towards conspecifics or similar species. Best kept singly or in a large tank with plenty of space.
Diet: Carnivorous; feeds primarily on small invertebrates and benthic organisms. Provide a varied diet including frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and specialised marine pellets.
Minimum Tank Size: A minimum of 180 litres (approximately 50 gallons) is advised to accommodate its active swimming and foraging behaviour.
Habitat & Placement: Requires a sandy substrate to allow natural digging and foraging with its barbels. Provide ample open swimming areas and rockwork for shelter.
