Fibramia amboinensis, commonly known as the Tank-Bred Cardinalfish, is a peaceful and hardy species well-suited for marine aquarium enthusiasts seeking a reliable and attractive addition to their tanks. Available in various sizes, these fish are bred in captivity, ensuring better acclimation and reduced impact on wild populations.
Temperament and Compatibility: This cardinalfish is peaceful and generally compatible with other non-aggressive tank mates. It is suitable for reef aquariums and can coexist with a variety of invertebrates and other fish species. Avoid housing with large predatory fish that may view it as prey.
Diet: Fibramia amboinensis readily accepts a variety of foods including frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality pellet or flake foods formulated for carnivorous marine fish. Feeding multiple small meals daily is recommended to maintain optimal health.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 75 litres (approximately 20 gallons) is advised to provide adequate swimming space and stable water parameters. Maintain stable marine conditions with a temperature range of 24-27°C, salinity of 1.020-1.025 SG, and pH between 8.1 and 8.4.
Lighting and Water Flow: Standard reef lighting is suitable as this species does not have specialised lighting needs. Moderate water flow is preferred to mimic natural reef environments without causing stress.
Placement: Provide plenty of live rock or artificial caves to offer shelter and resting places. This species is nocturnal and appreciates dimmer areas or shaded spots within the aquarium.
Origin: Tank-bred specimens, originally native to Indo-Pacific reef environments.
Maximum Size: Typically grows up to 8 cm in length.
