Chrysiptera cyanea, commonly known as the Blue Damselfish, is a popular choice for marine aquarium enthusiasts due to its striking electric blue colour and hardy nature. Available in various sizes, this species adapts well to captive conditions and is suitable for a range of tank setups.
Temperament and Compatibility: Chrysiptera cyanea is generally semi-aggressive, typical of damselfish, and may defend its territory vigorously. It is best kept with other robust species or in a species-specific tank. Avoid housing with very timid or slow-moving fish to prevent stress.
Diet: This damselfish is omnivorous and accepts a wide variety of foods including high-quality flake, frozen, and live foods such as brine shrimp and mysis shrimp. Regular feeding of varied diet ensures vibrant colour and good health.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 75 litres (20 gallons) is recommended to provide sufficient swimming space and territory. Provide plenty of live rock for hiding and establishing territories.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.020-1.025 SG, pH 8.1-8.4, and moderate water flow.
Reef Compatibility: With caution. While Chrysiptera cyanea may be kept in reef tanks, it can sometimes nip at corals or invertebrates, so monitoring is advised.
This species is available in various sizes, allowing hobbyists to select specimens that best fit their tank and experience level.
