Overview: The Splendid Garden Eel (Gorgasia preclara) is a fascinating marine species prized for its slender, elongated body and distinctive behaviour of partially emerging from the sand substrate. This species adds dynamic movement and visual interest to a mature marine aquarium.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. Requires stable water parameters and a well-established aquarium with deep sandy substrate for burrowing.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful and shy, these eels spend most of their time anchored in the sand with only their heads protruding. They are best kept with non-aggressive tank mates that will not disturb their burrows.
Diet: Carnivorous. Feed a diet of small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Frequent, small feedings are recommended to mimic natural feeding habits.
Minimum Tank Size: A minimum of 120 litres (approximately 30 gallons) is recommended to provide adequate space and substrate depth for burrowing.
Lighting and Water Flow: Moderate lighting and gentle water flow are ideal to replicate their natural environment and reduce stress.
Placement: Provide a deep sandy substrate (at least 10 cm) to allow natural burrowing behaviour. Position in a quiet area of the tank away from aggressive or boisterous fish.
Origin: Not Provided.
Maximum Size: Up to 40 cm in length.
