Lysmata grabhami, often called the Cleaner Shrimp, is a fascinating medium-sized marine invertebrate prized for its natural cleaning behaviour in reef aquariums. This species actively removes parasites and dead tissue from fish, promoting a healthier aquarium environment.
Care Level: Moderate care is recommended, suitable for hobbyists with some marine aquarium experience.
Diet: Omnivorous scavenger. Feed a varied diet including meaty foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality pellet or flake foods. They will also consume detritus and leftover food.
Compatibility: Generally peaceful and reef safe, Lysmata grabhami coexists well with most fish and invertebrates. Avoid housing with aggressive or predatory species that may harm the shrimp.
Reef Safety: Yes. This species is safe for reef tanks and will not harm corals or sessile invertebrates.
Minimum Tank Size: A minimum of 75 litres (20 gallons) is recommended to provide adequate space and stable water conditions.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, pH 8.1-8.4, and moderate water flow.
Placement: Provide plenty of live rock or hiding places where the shrimp can establish cleaning stations and feel secure.
Origin: Not Provided.
Maximum Size: Approximately 7-8 cm in length.
Additional Notes: Lysmata grabhami is a protandric hermaphrodite, meaning individuals start life as males and later change to females. They may be kept singly or in pairs, but avoid keeping multiple males together to reduce aggression.
