Nerita albicilla is a popular marine snail species prized for its effective algae grazing and compatibility with reef aquariums. Available in various sizes, these snails are a valuable addition to any marine tank, helping to maintain clean rock surfaces and reduce nuisance algae.
Care and Husbandry: Nerita albicilla thrives in stable marine conditions with a salinity of 1.023–1.025 specific gravity and temperatures between 22–26°C. They prefer moderate water flow and well-oxygenated environments. These snails are primarily herbivorous, feeding on microalgae and biofilm found on live rock and aquarium glass. Supplementary feeding with algae wafers or blanched vegetables can be provided if natural algae is insufficient.
Compatibility and Reef Safety: This species is peaceful and reef safe, making it suitable for community reef tanks. It coexists well with other invertebrates and fish without causing harm. Avoid housing with aggressive crabs or fish that may prey on snails.
Placement: Place Nerita albicilla on live rock or tank surfaces where algae growth is present. They are active grazers and will move around the tank searching for food.
Additional Notes: Ensure stable water parameters and avoid sudden changes in salinity or temperature. Regular monitoring of water quality will support their health and longevity.
