Elacatinus evelynae, commonly known as the Neon Goby, is a small, brightly coloured marine fish prized for its striking blue lateral stripes and its role as a cleaner fish in reef aquariums. This tank-bred specimen ensures healthier, more adaptable livestock for your marine setup.
Temperament and Compatibility: The Neon Goby is peaceful and non-aggressive, making it an excellent addition to community reef tanks. It coexists well with other peaceful fish and invertebrates. Its cleaning behaviour helps reduce parasite loads on tank mates.
Diet: Primarily carnivorous, it thrives on a diet of meaty foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and specialised prepared diets formulated for cleaner gobies. Regular feeding of small portions multiple times a day is recommended.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 75 litres (20 gallons) is advised to provide adequate swimming space and territory. Stable water parameters with a temperature range of 24-27°C, salinity of 1.023-1.025 SG, and pH between 8.1 and 8.4 support optimal health.
Lighting and Water Flow: Moderate lighting is suitable, replicating reef conditions without excessive brightness. Water flow should be gentle to moderate to mimic natural habitats and ensure oxygenation without stressing the fish.
Placement: Provide plenty of live rock with crevices and hiding spots to encourage natural behaviour and security. The Neon Goby often establishes cleaning stations within the tank.
Origin: Tank-bred specimens are sourced from captive breeding programmes, reducing wild collection impact and improving acclimation.
