Thalassoma hebraicum is a strikingly colourful wrasse species native to the Red Sea and adjacent waters. Known for its active swimming behaviour and vibrant hues, this small wrasse adds dynamic movement and visual interest to marine aquaria.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. This species requires stable water conditions and a mature aquarium environment.
Temperament: Semi-aggressive. It can be territorial, especially towards similar-sized wrasses or other active fish. Best kept singly or in a large tank with plenty of hiding places.
Diet: Carnivorous. Feed a varied diet including high-quality frozen or live meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Supplement with specialised marine pellets or flakes to ensure balanced nutrition.
Minimum Tank Size: 120 litres (approximately 30 gallons) to provide ample swimming space and reduce territorial disputes.
Reef Compatibility: With Caution. While generally reef safe, it may nip at small invertebrates or sessile animals. Monitor behaviour closely in reef setups.
Lighting and Water Flow: Standard marine aquarium lighting and moderate water flow are suitable. Provide a well-oxygenated environment with stable parameters.
Placement: Provide plenty of live rock for shelter and territories. This wrasse appreciates a complex environment with crevices to retreat to when threatened.
Origin: Red Sea region.
Maximum Size: Up to 15 cm (6 inches).
