This large specimen is suitable for marine aquarists with intermediate to advanced experience due to its specialised care requirements and predatory nature.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced care is recommended. This species requires stable water parameters and a well-established aquarium.
Temperament and Compatibility: The Shortfin Lionfish is generally solitary and territorial. It can be aggressive towards smaller fish and invertebrates, so compatibility with tank mates should be carefully considered. Avoid housing with small or slow-moving species that may be seen as prey.
Diet: Carnivorous by nature, it thrives on a diet of meaty foods such as live or frozen crustaceans, small fish, and specialised prepared foods. Feeding should be regular but not excessive to maintain health.
Minimum Tank Size: A minimum aquarium volume of 120 litres (approximately 30 gallons) is recommended to provide adequate swimming space and territory.
