The Coradion altivelis, also known as the Longfin Bannerfish, is a visually stunning butterflyfish prized for its elegant elongated dorsal fin and distinctive colouration. This large variant is suitable for advanced marine aquarium enthusiasts who can provide the necessary environment and care.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful, the Longfin Bannerfish can be kept with other non-aggressive fish species. It is best housed singly or in pairs to avoid territorial disputes. Avoid keeping with overly aggressive or fin-nipping species.
Diet: This species is omnivorous, requiring a varied diet including high-quality frozen mysis, brine shrimp, and marine algae. Supplement with specialised prepared foods formulated for butterflyfish to ensure balanced nutrition.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 150 litres is recommended to provide ample swimming space. The aquarium should be well-established with live rock for grazing and hiding spots.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, pH 8.1-8.4, and moderate water flow.
Reef Compatibility: Coradion altivelis is considered reef safe with caution. It may nip at coral polyps or sessile invertebrates, so monitor behaviour closely in reef setups.
With proper care, this large Longfin Bannerfish can be a captivating centrepiece in a mature marine aquarium.
