Chaetodontoplus meredithi, commonly known as Meredith’s Angelfish, is a visually captivating species prized for its vibrant colours and unique patterning. This listing features a pair of extra large specimens, perfect for advanced hobbyists with ample aquarium space.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced care is recommended due to their specific dietary needs and territorial behaviour. These angelfish thrive best in well-established marine systems.
Temperament and Compatibility: Meredithi angelfish are semi-aggressive and can be territorial, especially towards conspecifics and similar species. Keeping a bonded pair can reduce aggression, but caution is advised when housing with other angelfish or delicate reef inhabitants. They are generally compatible with robust tank mates but may nip at corals or sessile invertebrates.
Diet: Omnivorous with a preference for sponges, tunicates, and algae. Provide a varied diet including high-quality marine angelfish pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, spirulina, and sponge-based foods to ensure optimal health.
Minimum Tank Size: A minimum of 250 litres (approximately 65 gallons) is recommended to accommodate their active swimming and territorial behaviour.
Lighting and Water Flow: Standard reef aquarium lighting is suitable. Moderate water flow mimicking natural reef currents supports their well-being.
Placement: Provide plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding spots to reduce stress. Position them in a spacious area away from overly aggressive tank mates.
Origin: Native to Australian waters, particularly the eastern coast, where they inhabit rocky reefs and coral environments.
Maximum Size: Can reach up to 25 cm (10 inches) in length when fully grown.
Reef Safety: With Caution – may nip at corals and sessile invertebrates, so not recommended for delicate reef tanks.
