Overview: The Chaetodon decussatus, or Crosshatch Butterflyfish, is a visually captivating species prized for its intricate lattice-like patterning. This medium-sized butterflyfish is best suited to experienced hobbyists due to its specific care requirements and sensitivity to water quality.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. Requires stable water parameters and a mature tank environment.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful but may show territorial behaviour towards conspecifics or similar butterflyfish species. Compatible with other peaceful marine fish but caution is advised when housing with aggressive or fin-nipping species.
Diet: Omnivorous. In the aquarium, provide a varied diet including high-quality frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, marine algae, and specialised prepared foods formulated for butterflyfish. Supplement with live or frozen coral polyps and small invertebrates if possible.
Minimum Tank Size: At least 150 litres (approximately 40 gallons) to provide adequate swimming space and territory.
