The Diana Wrasse (Bodianus diana) is a beautifully patterned wrasse native to the Indo-Pacific region. Known for its vivid colours and active behaviour, it is a popular choice for marine aquarists seeking a dynamic addition to their reef or fish-only tanks.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. This species requires stable water conditions and a mature aquarium environment.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful but can be territorial towards conspecifics or similar-shaped wrasses. Best kept singly or in a large tank with plenty of hiding places. Compatible with a variety of peaceful reef fish but caution is advised with very small invertebrates.
Diet: Carnivorous. Feed a varied diet including high-quality frozen or live meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Supplement with marine pellets formulated for carnivores.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 120 litres (approximately 30 gallons) is recommended to provide sufficient swimming space. Provide live rock for shelter and grazing opportunities.
Reef Safety: With caution. May prey on small crustaceans and ornamental shrimp; monitor closely if housed in a reef setup.
Lighting and Water Flow: Standard reef lighting is suitable. Moderate water flow mimicking natural reef currents is ideal to maintain health and activity.
Origin: Indo-Pacific region.
Maximum Size: Up to 20 cm (approximately 8 inches).
