Chrysiptera hemicyanea, commonly called the Azure Damselfish, is a popular choice for marine aquarists seeking a hardy and visually striking fish. Its vivid blue body contrasted with a bright yellow lower half makes it a standout addition to reef and community tanks.
Temperament and Compatibility: This species is moderately territorial, especially in smaller tanks, but generally compatible with a wide range of peaceful to semi-aggressive tank mates. It is best kept singly or in a mated pair unless housed in a sufficiently large aquarium to reduce territorial disputes.
Diet: Chrysiptera hemicyanea is an omnivore and accepts a variety of foods including high-quality marine flakes, pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Feeding should be done 1-2 times daily to maintain optimal health.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 75 litres (20 gallons) is recommended to provide ample swimming space and reduce aggression. Stable water parameters with a temperature range of 24-27°C, salinity 1.020-1.025 SG, and pH 8.1-8.4 are ideal.
Reef Compatibility: Generally considered reef safe with caution, as some individuals may nip at coral polyps or sessile invertebrates. Monitoring behaviour is advised when introducing to reef systems.
Origin: Not Provided.
Maximum Size: Approximately 8 cm (3 inches) in length.
