Chrysiptera brownriggii, commonly referred to as Brownrigg’s Damselfish, is a popular choice among marine aquarium enthusiasts due to its vibrant colours and robust nature. This species is available in various sizes, making it adaptable for different tank setups and hobbyist experience levels.
Care Level: Easy to moderate. This damselfish is hardy and tolerates a range of water conditions, making it suitable for beginners with some basic marine aquarium knowledge.
Temperament and Compatibility: Chrysiptera brownriggii is semi-aggressive, typical of damselfish. It can coexist with a variety of other species but may show territorial behaviour, especially in smaller tanks. It is best kept with similarly sized or larger fish to reduce aggression. Avoid housing with very passive or slow-moving species.
Diet: Omnivorous. Feed a varied diet including high-quality marine flakes, pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and other meaty marine fare to ensure optimal health and colouration.
Minimum Tank Size: A minimum of 75 litres (approximately 20 gallons) is recommended to provide adequate swimming space and reduce territorial disputes.
Reef Compatibility: With caution. While generally reef safe, Chrysiptera brownriggii may nip at corals or sessile invertebrates, especially if underfed or stressed. Monitor behaviour closely in reef setups.
Lighting and Water Flow: Standard marine aquarium lighting and moderate water flow are suitable. This species does not have specialised lighting or flow requirements.
Placement: Mid to lower levels of the aquarium. Provide plenty of live rock for hiding and territory establishment.
Origin: Not Provided.
Maximum Size: Approximately 8 cm (3 inches).
