The Tridacna Crocea Clam is a small but striking addition to any marine reef aquarium. At approximately 6cm, this clam is known for its vibrant mantle colours and patterns, which add a natural splash of colour to your tank. It is a photosynthetic clam that relies heavily on strong lighting to sustain its symbiotic zooxanthellae algae.
Care Level: Moderate. Requires stable water parameters and strong lighting.
Feeding: Primarily photosynthetic, but will benefit from occasional supplementation with phytoplankton or marine microalgae, especially in lower light conditions.
Compatibility: Reef safe and peaceful, suitable for reef tanks with corals and other invertebrates. Avoid housing with aggressive fish or invertebrates that may nip or disturb the clam.
Lighting: High-intensity lighting such as T5, LED, or metal halide is recommended to support photosynthesis.
Water Flow: Moderate water flow is ideal to ensure nutrient exchange without causing stress or damage to the clam’s delicate mantle.
Placement: Position on a stable rock or substrate where it can receive direct light and is protected from strong currents or aggressive tank mates.
Tank Size: Minimum 100 litres recommended to maintain stable water conditions and accommodate growth.
Regular monitoring of water quality, including calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium, is essential to support shell growth and overall health.
