Taenianotus triacanthus, commonly known as the Yellow Leaf Scorpionfish, is a fascinating marine fish prized for its distinctive flattened, leaf-like body and bright yellow coloration. This species is a master of camouflage, often mimicking drifting leaves or algae, making it a captivating display fish for advanced marine aquarists.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. This species requires stable water parameters and a well-established aquarium.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful but predatory. It is best kept with similarly sized or larger non-aggressive tankmates. Avoid housing with very small fish or invertebrates that may be seen as prey.
Diet: Carnivorous. Feed a varied diet of meaty foods such as live or frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Regular feeding is essential as this species can be slow to accept food.
Minimum Tank Size: A minimum of 75 litres (20 gallons) is recommended to provide adequate space and stable water conditions.
Lighting and Water Flow: Moderate lighting is suitable. Water flow should be gentle to moderate to mimic natural reef conditions without stressing the fish.
Placement: Provide plenty of live rock with crevices and shaded areas to allow natural ambush behaviour and resting spots.
Origin: Indo-Pacific region (general distribution).
Maximum Size: Up to 10 cm (4 inches) in length.
Due to its specialised diet and care requirements, the Yellow Leaf Scorpionfish is recommended for experienced marine aquarists who can maintain stable water quality and provide appropriate feeding.
