Synanceia verrucosa, commonly known as the Warty Stonefish, is a fascinating and highly venomous scorpionfish species native to the Indo-Pacific region. Renowned for its remarkable camouflage and warty appearance, this medium-sized fish is a captivating addition to specialised marine aquaria.
Care Level: Due to its venomous spines and specialised care requirements, the Warty Stonefish is recommended only for experienced marine aquarists.
Temperament and Compatibility: Synanceia verrucosa is generally sedentary and solitary. It can be aggressive towards smaller tankmates and should be housed with caution. Avoid keeping with small or slow-moving fish that may be perceived as prey.
Diet: This species is carnivorous, feeding primarily on live or frozen meaty foods such as crustaceans and small fish. Regular feeding with appropriate protein-rich foods is essential to maintain health.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 180 litres (approximately 50 gallons) is recommended to provide adequate space and stable water conditions. The aquarium should feature plenty of live rock and sandy substrate to mimic its natural habitat and offer ample hiding places.
