The Siganus javus, commonly known as the Javanese Rabbitfish, is a striking and peaceful species prized for its vibrant colours and algae grazing capabilities. This extra large specimen is perfect for experienced marine aquarists with mature tanks.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful, the Javanese Rabbitfish coexists well with other non-aggressive species. However, it may become territorial towards conspecifics or similar species. It is best kept singly or as a mated pair in larger aquariums.
Diet: Primarily herbivorous, this species thrives on a diet rich in marine algae and seaweed. Supplement with high-quality herbivore pellets and occasional meaty foods to ensure balanced nutrition.
Tank Requirements: Due to its potential size and active swimming behaviour, a minimum tank size of 250 litres is recommended. Provide ample live rock for grazing and hiding spots to reduce stress.
Reef Compatibility: Reef safe with caution. While generally safe with corals, it may nip at some soft or delicate coral polyps and clam mantles.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.020-1.025 SG, and moderate water flow.
Origin: Native to the Indo-Pacific region.
