Scolopsis bilineata, known as the Two-lined Monocle Bream, is a visually captivating snapper native to Indo-Pacific waters. This large variant can grow to a considerable size, making it suitable for well-established marine aquariums.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally semi-aggressive, this species may show territorial behaviour, especially in confined spaces. It is best housed with similarly sized, robust tank mates. Avoid keeping with very small or timid fish to prevent stress or predation.
Diet: Carnivorous by nature, the Two-lined Monocle Bream thrives on a varied diet including meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, chopped seafood, and specialised carnivore pellets. Feeding should be done once or twice daily to maintain optimal health.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 180 litres (approximately 50 gallons) is recommended to provide ample swimming space and reduce territorial disputes. The aquarium should feature plenty of hiding spots using live rock and open swimming areas.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.020-1.025 SG, pH 8.1-8.4, and moderate water flow. Regular water changes and high water quality are essential.
Reef Compatibility: With Caution. While not inherently destructive to corals, their semi-aggressive nature and size mean they may disturb smaller reef inhabitants or damage delicate corals.
Origin: Indo-Pacific region.
Maximum Size: Up to 25 cm (10 inches).
