The Rhinecanthus rectangulus, commonly known as the Picasso Triggerfish, is a visually striking species prized for its vibrant colours and distinctive patterns. This extra large specimen is ideal for experienced marine aquarists seeking a bold and active addition to their aquarium.
Temperament and Compatibility: Picasso Triggerfish are known for their assertive and territorial nature. They can be aggressive towards smaller or more passive tankmates, so careful selection of compatible species is essential. Best kept with robust, similarly sized fish and avoided in reef tanks with delicate invertebrates.
Diet: This species is omnivorous and requires a varied diet including meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, chopped seafood, and specialised marine pellets or flakes. Regular feeding 2-3 times daily supports their health and vibrant coloration.
Tank Requirements: Due to their size and activity level, a minimum tank size of 180 litres (approximately 50 gallons) is recommended to provide ample swimming space and territory. A secure lid is advised as they may jump.
Water Parameters and Environment: Maintain stable marine conditions with a temperature range of 24-27°C, salinity of 1.020-1.025 SG, and pH between 8.1 and 8.4. Moderate water flow and good filtration are important to ensure water quality. Provide plenty of rockwork and hiding places to mimic their natural reef environment.
Origin: Native to the Indo-Pacific region, including reefs around Hawaii and the western Pacific.
