The Six-Line Wrasse (Pseudocheilinus hexataenia) is a popular choice among marine aquarium enthusiasts due to its vivid colours and active nature. This species displays six distinctive horizontal lines along its body, making it a striking addition to reef tanks.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful but territorial, the Six-Line Wrasse can coexist well with other non-aggressive fish species. It is best kept singly or in a large enough tank to reduce territorial disputes. Avoid housing with very small or shy fish that may be stressed by its active behaviour.
Diet: Carnivorous by nature, this wrasse thrives on a varied diet including live or frozen meaty foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Supplementing with high-quality marine pellets or flakes is recommended to ensure balanced nutrition.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 75 litres (approximately 20 gallons) is advised to provide ample swimming space and territory. The aquarium should be well-established with plenty of live rock for hiding and foraging.
Reef Compatibility: The Six-Line Wrasse is considered reef safe with caution. While generally safe with corals and invertebrates, it may occasionally nip at small sessile invertebrates or clam mantles. Monitoring behaviour is recommended.
Care Level: Moderate. Requires stable water parameters and a well-maintained environment.
Water Parameters: Maintain temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, pH 8.1-8.4, and moderate water flow.
Origin: Indo-Pacific region.
Maximum Size: Up to 10 cm (4 inches).
