Priacanthus hamrur, commonly known as the Moontail Bullseye or Bigeye, is a captivating medium-sized cardinal fish prized for its bright red hues and large eyes adapted for nocturnal activity. This species is best suited for experienced marine aquarists due to its specific care needs and temperament.
Care Level: Moderate to Advanced. This species requires stable water parameters and a mature aquarium environment.
Temperament: Generally peaceful but can be shy and nocturnal. It may become territorial with conspecifics or similar species.
Diet: Carnivorous. Feed a varied diet of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Feeding should be done in the evening to match its natural activity patterns.
Minimum Tank Size: A minimum of 150 litres (approximately 40 gallons) is recommended to provide sufficient swimming space and hiding spots.
Lighting Requirements: Moderate lighting is preferred, with dimmer conditions during the evening to accommodate its nocturnal behaviour.
