Lutjanus bohar, commonly referred to as the Medium Snapper, is a robust and visually striking marine fish prized by experienced aquarists. This species is known for its vibrant red and orange hues and active swimming behaviour.
Temperament and Compatibility: Lutjanus bohar is a predatory and territorial species. It is best housed with similarly sized or larger robust fish to avoid aggression. It is not reef safe and should be kept away from invertebrates and smaller fish that may be viewed as prey.
Diet: This snapper is carnivorous and thrives on a varied diet including meaty foods such as chopped seafood, crustaceans, and specialised carnivore pellets. Feeding should be regular and sufficient to maintain health and vitality.
Tank Requirements: Due to its potential adult size and active nature, a minimum tank size of 500 litres is recommended. The aquarium should provide ample swimming space with robust filtration and stable water parameters.
Water Parameters and Environment: Maintain temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, and stable pH around 8.1-8.4. Moderate to strong water flow is preferred to mimic natural reef currents.
Placement: Provide plenty of open swimming areas alongside rockwork or caves for shelter. Avoid housing with small or timid species.
Origin: Not Provided.
Maximum Size: Up to 70 cm in the wild; medium specimens typically range around 30-40 cm.
