Hologymnosus doliatus, commonly known as the Pastel or Pastel-lined Wrasse, is a visually stunning marine fish prized for its vibrant colours and active swimming behaviour. This species is best suited for experienced hobbyists due to its specific care requirements and temperament.
Typically reaching a moderate size, this wrasse thrives in a well-established aquarium with ample swimming space. A minimum tank size of 180 litres is recommended to accommodate its active nature and territorial behaviour.
Hologymnosus doliatus is carnivorous and benefits from a varied diet including meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped seafood, and specialised pellet or flake foods formulated for carnivorous marine fish. Feeding multiple times daily in small portions helps maintain optimal health.
Temperamentally, this wrasse can be semi-aggressive, especially towards smaller or more passive tankmates. It is advisable to house it with similarly sized or robust species to reduce stress and territorial disputes.
Water parameters should be stable with a temperature range of 24-27°C, salinity around 1.023-1.025 SG, and good water quality maintained through regular filtration and water changes. Moderate water flow and lighting are suitable, mimicking its natural reef environment.
Due to its predatory tendencies, Hologymnosus doliatus is generally not reef safe and may prey on small invertebrates and fish.
