Hologymnosus doliatus, commonly referred to as the Pastel Ring Wrasse, is a visually stunning wrasse species prized for its vibrant colouration and dynamic behaviour. This medium to large fish can reach up to 30cm in length, making it suitable for larger marine aquariums.
Temperament and Compatibility: This wrasse is moderately aggressive and active, best housed with similarly sized or larger tank mates. It may show territorial behaviour, especially in smaller tanks. Avoid keeping with very small or timid species.
Diet: Carnivorous by nature, the Pastel Ring Wrasse thrives on a varied diet including meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped seafood, and specialised marine pellets or flakes. Regular feeding 1-2 times daily is recommended.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 180 litres (approximately 50 gallons) is advised to provide ample swimming space. The aquarium should include plenty of live rock for hiding and foraging, as well as secure lids to prevent escape, as wrasses are known jumpers.
Reef Compatibility: With caution. While generally reef safe, this species may prey on small invertebrates such as shrimps and small crabs. Monitor closely if kept in reef setups.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, pH 8.1-8.4, and moderate water flow.
Origin: Native to the Indo-Pacific region.
