Haemulon sciurus, known as the Blue-striped Grunt, is a visually stunning marine fish featuring vibrant blue horizontal stripes over a silvery body. This medium-sized, tank-bred specimen is well-suited for marine aquarium enthusiasts seeking a peaceful and active addition to their community tanks.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful, Haemulon sciurus coexists well with other non-aggressive tank mates. Avoid housing with overly aggressive species to maintain harmony.
Diet: This species thrives on a varied diet including high-quality frozen and live foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Supplement with marine flake or pellet foods to ensure balanced nutrition.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 180 litres is recommended to provide ample swimming space. Maintain stable water parameters typical of a tropical marine environment: temperature 24-27°C, salinity 1.023-1.025 SG, pH 8.1-8.4.
Care Level: Moderate care is advised, suitable for aquarists with some marine experience. Regular water changes and monitoring of water quality are essential.
Reef Compatibility: With caution. While generally reef safe, monitor interactions with smaller invertebrates and corals as some individual fish may show predatory behaviour.
