The Genicanthus watanabei, commonly known as Watanabe’s Angelfish, is a beautifully patterned marine fish prized for its graceful swimming and peaceful nature. This listing features a medium-sized female specimen, distinguished by its unique colouration and markings.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful, this species coexists well with other non-aggressive tank mates. It is best kept in a mature aquarium with plenty of hiding spaces and live rock to explore. Avoid housing with overly aggressive species to reduce stress.
Diet: Omnivorous by nature, the Watanabe’s Angelfish thrives on a varied diet including high-quality marine angelfish pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and marine algae. Regular feeding of vegetable matter supports optimal health and vibrant colours.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 180 litres (approximately 50 gallons) is recommended to provide ample swimming space. Stable water parameters with good filtration and moderate water flow are essential. Lighting should mimic natural reef conditions but is not critical to this species.
Reef Compatibility: This angelfish is generally considered reef safe with caution, as it may nip at sessile invertebrates such as coral polyps or clam mantles. Monitoring behaviour when introduced to reef tanks is advised.
Care Level: Moderate. Suitable for aquarists with some marine experience and a well-established tank.
