The Entacmaea quadricolor, commonly known as the Bubble Tip Anemone, is a popular choice among marine aquarium enthusiasts due to its striking Sunburst-Rainbow colour variant and dynamic tentacle movement. This large specimen offers a vibrant display with its mix of orange, pink, and green hues, making it a captivating focal point in mature reef tanks.
Care Level
Moderate to advanced. Requires stable water parameters and a well-established tank.
Feeding
Primarily photosynthetic through symbiotic zooxanthellae, but benefits from supplemental feeding. Offer small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or finely chopped seafood 1-2 times per week to promote health and growth.
Compatibility and Reef Safety
Generally reef safe with caution. While compatible with many reef inhabitants, the anemone’s stinging tentacles can harm nearby corals and small invertebrates. Provide adequate space to prevent contact and potential damage.
Tank Requirements
- Minimum Tank Size: 75 litres (20 gallons) or larger to accommodate growth and movement.
- Lighting: Moderate to high lighting is essential to support its photosynthetic needs. LED or T5 lighting systems are suitable.
- Water Flow: Moderate, indirect water flow to mimic natural reef conditions without causing excessive tentacle movement.
- Placement: Secure on live rock or substrate where it can attach firmly. Avoid placing near aggressive corals or species prone to nipping.
Additional Notes
Ensure stable water parameters with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, and low nutrient levels. Regular monitoring and water changes will help maintain optimal conditions.
