The Entacmaea quadricolor, commonly known as the Bubble Tip Anemone, is a popular and visually striking invertebrate for marine aquariums. This large red variant is prized for its vibrant colouration and dynamic tentacle movement, making it a captivating centrepiece in reef tanks.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. This species requires stable water parameters and consistent care.
Feeding: While capable of deriving nutrition from photosynthesis via symbiotic zooxanthellae, it benefits from supplemental feeding. Offer meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, finely chopped seafood, or specialised anemone pellets 1-2 times per week to promote health and growth.
Compatibility and Reef Safety: Generally reef safe with caution. It can host anemonefish (clownfish) and is compatible with many reef-safe fish and invertebrates. However, it may sting corals or other sessile invertebrates if placed too close.
Lighting and Water Flow: Prefers moderate to high lighting to support its photosynthetic symbionts. Moderate water flow is ideal to ensure tentacles move gently without causing damage.
Placement: Position on a stable rock or substrate where it can attach securely. Avoid placing near aggressive corals or in areas of strong direct flow. Provide ample space to accommodate its expansion and movement.
Tank Size: A minimum of 75 litres (20 gallons) is recommended to maintain stable water conditions and provide sufficient space.
Origin: Not Provided.
Maximum Size: Up to 30 cm in diameter under optimal conditions.
With attentive care, the large red Entacmaea quadricolor can be a long-lived and rewarding addition to a mature marine aquarium.
