The Entacmaea quadricolor, commonly known as the Bubble Tip Anemone, is a popular choice among marine aquarium hobbyists due to its vibrant red coloration and dynamic tentacle movement. This medium-sized specimen is perfect for established reef tanks and offers a stunning focal point.
Care and Husbandry: This anemone requires moderate lighting, ideally provided by LED or T5 aquarium lights, to support its symbiotic zooxanthellae algae. Moderate water flow is recommended to ensure the anemone’s tentacles gently sway without being damaged by strong currents.
Placement should be on a stable rock or substrate where it can attach securely. It may move around the tank initially as it finds a suitable spot. Compatibility with clownfish is well documented, as they often host within the anemone’s tentacles. However, care should be taken with other invertebrates and corals, as the anemone can sting nearby tank mates.
Feeding: While Entacmaea quadricolor derives much of its nutrition from photosynthesis, supplemental feeding with meaty foods such as mysis shrimp or finely chopped seafood once or twice a week will promote health and growth.
Reef Safety: This species is generally considered reef safe with caution, as it can sting corals and other invertebrates if placed too close.
