Entacmaea quadricolor, commonly known as the Orange Tip Anemone, is a captivating large anemone species prized in marine aquariums for its vivid orange tentacle tips and symbiotic compatibility with clownfish.
Care Level: Moderate care is recommended, suitable for aquarists with some experience in maintaining stable reef conditions.
Feeding: While Entacmaea quadricolor derives much of its nutrition from photosynthetic zooxanthellae, supplemental feeding with meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or finely chopped seafood 1-2 times weekly will promote optimal health and growth.
Compatibility & Reef Safety: This species is generally reef safe and compatible with many reef inhabitants. It forms mutualistic relationships with clownfish, which may host within its tentacles. However, caution is advised as its long tentacles can sting nearby corals, so adequate spacing is essential.
Lighting Requirements: Moderate to high lighting is necessary to support its photosynthetic symbionts. LED or T5 lighting systems that provide a PAR range of approximately 100-200 µmol/m²/s are suitable.
Water Flow: Moderate water flow is ideal to ensure nutrient exchange without causing excessive stress or damage to the anemone’s delicate tentacles.
Placement: Place the anemone on a stable rock or substrate area with sufficient space around it to prevent stinging neighbouring corals. It may move to find preferred lighting and flow conditions.
Tank Size: A minimum tank size of 75 litres (20 gallons) is recommended to provide adequate space and stable water parameters.
Origin: Indo-Pacific region.
Maximum Size: Can reach up to 30 cm (12 inches) in diameter under optimal conditions.
