Elacatinus puncticulatus, commonly known as a cleaner goby, is a peaceful and active species prized in the marine aquarium hobby. This tank-bred variety ensures healthier specimens with reduced wild collection impact and better acclimation to captive conditions.
Temperament and Compatibility: This goby is peaceful and generally compatible with other non-aggressive fish and invertebrates. It performs natural cleaning behaviours, removing ectoparasites from tank mates, making it a beneficial addition to community reef tanks.
Diet: In captivity, Elacatinus puncticulatus accepts a varied diet including frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality prepared foods. Regular feeding supports their health and vibrant colours.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 75 litres (approximately 20 gallons) is recommended to provide adequate swimming space and territories. Stable water parameters with moderate lighting and gentle to moderate water flow suit this species well.
Placement: They thrive in reef aquariums with plenty of live rock for shelter and cleaning stations. Positioning them where they can interact with other fish encourages their natural cleaning behaviour.
Origin: Tank-bred specimens are bred in captivity, reducing pressure on wild populations and improving survivability.
