Elacatinus macrodon is a small, peaceful goby species prized for its vibrant colours and beneficial behaviour in marine aquariums. This tank-bred variety ensures healthier specimens with better acclimation to captive conditions, making them an excellent choice for both beginner and experienced hobbyists.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful and non-aggressive, Elacatinus macrodon coexists well with other small, non-territorial fish and invertebrates. They are suitable for reef tanks and will not harm corals or sessile invertebrates.
Diet: These gobies thrive on a varied diet consisting of finely chopped meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and specialised marine pellets or flakes. Regular feeding 1-2 times daily is recommended to maintain optimal health.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 60 litres is advised to provide sufficient swimming space and territory. Stable water parameters with temperatures between 24-27°C, salinity of 1.023-1.025 SG, and good water quality are essential.
Lighting and Water Flow: Standard reef aquarium lighting is suitable. Moderate water flow mimicking natural reef conditions will help maintain health and encourage natural behaviour.
Placement: Provide plenty of live rock with crevices and hiding spots to mimic their natural habitat and reduce stress.
Origin: Not Provided.
Maximum Size: Approximately 5 cm (2 inches).
