Overview: The Coris gaimard, commonly called the Yellowtail Wrasse, is a visually stunning marine fish prized for its vibrant colouration and lively personality. This extra large specimen is suitable for experienced marine aquarists with spacious tanks.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful but can be territorial, especially towards conspecifics or similar wrasse species. Best kept singly or in a large tank with ample hiding spaces. Compatible with a variety of reef-safe tank mates but caution is advised with small, timid fish.
Diet: Carnivorous; thrives on a varied diet including meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped seafood, and specialised marine pellets. Feeding multiple times daily in smaller portions is recommended to maintain health.
Tank Requirements: Minimum tank size of 250 litres (approximately 65 gallons) to provide sufficient swimming space and territory. A well-established aquarium with live rock for foraging and hiding is essential. Secure lid recommended as wrasses are known jumpers.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity 1.023-1.025 SG, pH 8.1-8.4, and moderate water flow.
Reef Compatibility: Generally reef safe but may prey on small invertebrates such as shrimps and small crabs. Suitable for reef tanks with caution.
Additional Notes: This extra large specimen is best suited for advanced hobbyists due to its size and specific care needs. Regular monitoring and maintenance will ensure a healthy and vibrant fish.
