Cirrhilabrus brunneus, commonly known as the Brown Flasher Wrasse, is a strikingly coloured marine fish native to the Western Pacific. The female of this species displays more subdued hues compared to males but still adds vibrant movement and interest to a reef aquarium.
This wrasse is peaceful and best kept in a well-established tank with plenty of live rock for hiding and foraging. It is suitable for reef aquariums, though care should be taken with very small invertebrates as it may occasionally nip at them.
Care Recommendations:
- Temperament: Peaceful and shy; best kept singly or in a harem with one male and multiple females.
- Diet: Carnivorous; feeds on small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and specialised pellet or flake foods formulated for carnivorous marine fish.
- Minimum Tank Size: 120 litres (approximately 30 gallons) to provide ample swimming space and territory.
- Water Parameters: Stable marine conditions with temperature 24-27°C, salinity 1.023-1.025, pH 8.1-8.4.
- Reef Compatibility: Yes, with caution. Generally reef safe but may prey on very small ornamental invertebrates.
Regular feeding and a secure lid are recommended, as wrasses are known jumpers. Providing a sandy substrate or fine gravel will allow natural burrowing behaviour at night.
Available in various sizes, these females can be selected to suit your aquarium setup and stocking plan.
