Chelmonops truncatus, commonly referred to as the Australian Butterflyfish, is a striking medium-sized marine fish native to the coastal waters of Australia. Known for its distinctive colouration and peaceful temperament, this species is a captivating addition to a mature marine aquarium.

Temperament: Generally peaceful but can be territorial towards conspecifics or similar species.
Diet: Omnivorous. Requires a varied diet including meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood, supplemented with algae and prepared marine fish foods.
Minimum Tank Size: At least 120 litres (approximately 30 gallons) to provide ample swimming space and territory.
Reef Safe: With Caution. While generally reef compatible, they may nip at small invertebrates or sessile animals.
Lighting Requirements: Standard marine aquarium lighting suitable for fish and live rock.
Water Flow: Moderate water movement to mimic natural coastal habitats.
Placement: Provide plenty of live rock for grazing and shelter. Avoid aggressive tank mates and ensure ample hiding places.
