Chaetodontoplus mesoleucus, commonly known as the Vermiculated Angelfish, is a captivating medium-sized marine fish prized for its distinctive pattern and vibrant colours. This species is best suited to experienced marine aquarists due to its specific care requirements and sensitivity to water quality.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful, the Vermiculated Angelfish can be territorial towards conspecifics or similar species. It is compatible with other non-aggressive tank mates but should be housed singly or as a mated pair in larger aquaria to prevent disputes.
Diet: Omnivorous by nature, this angelfish thrives on a varied diet including high-quality marine angelfish pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, spirulina, and marine algae. Supplementing with sponge-based foods is beneficial to mimic natural feeding habits.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 180 litres (approximately 50 gallons) is recommended to provide ample swimming space and territory. Stable water parameters with excellent filtration and regular water changes are essential to maintain health.
Reef Compatibility: With caution. While generally reef safe, this species may nip at sessile invertebrates such as sponges and tunicates. Careful monitoring is advised when housed in reef systems.
Lighting and Water Flow: Moderate lighting and moderate water flow replicate natural reef conditions and support the health of this angelfish.
Origin: Native to the Indo-Pacific region, particularly around coral reefs where it inhabits rocky and coral-rich environments.
