Centropyge aurantia, commonly known as the Golden Angelfish, is a captivating species prized for its vivid yellow-orange body and contrasting blue accents. This large variant is best suited for marine aquarists with some experience due to its specific care requirements.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally semi-aggressive, Centropyge aurantia can be territorial, especially towards conspecifics and other dwarf angelfish. It is recommended to keep only one individual per tank or introduce them simultaneously in a sufficiently large aquarium to reduce aggression. Compatible with a variety of peaceful reef-safe fish, but caution is advised when housing with invertebrates as they may nip at coral polyps.
Diet: Omnivorous by nature, this angelfish thrives on a varied diet including marine algae, spirulina, mysis shrimp, and high-quality prepared foods formulated for angelfish. Regular feeding of vegetable matter is essential to maintain vibrant colouration and health.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 120 litres (approximately 30 gallons) is recommended to provide ample swimming space and territory. The aquarium should be mature with plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding spots. Stable water parameters and excellent water quality are critical for success.
Lighting and Water Flow: Moderate lighting is suitable, replicating natural reef conditions. Moderate water flow is preferred to ensure oxygenation without stressing the fish.
Placement: Mid to lower levels of the tank are ideal, where the fish can graze on algae and find shelter among rockwork.
Origin: Not Provided.
Maximum Size: Approximately 12 cm (4.7 inches).
