Caesio cuning, commonly known as the small fusilier snapper, is a schooling marine fish prized for its vibrant blue and yellow hues. This species is best suited for experienced hobbyists with medium to large marine aquariums due to its active swimming behaviour and social nature.
Temperament and Compatibility: Caesio cuning is peaceful and thrives in groups of five or more. It coexists well with other non-aggressive fish species but should not be housed with large predatory fish that may view it as prey.
Diet: This snapper is omnivorous, feeding primarily on plankton and small invertebrates in the wild. In captivity, provide a varied diet including high-quality marine pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood to ensure optimal health.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 180 litres (approximately 40 gallons) is recommended to accommodate their active schooling behaviour. Provide ample open swimming space with moderate water flow and stable water parameters. Regular water changes and good filtration are essential.
Lighting and Placement: Standard marine aquarium lighting is sufficient. Place the fish in the mid to upper water column where they can swim freely. Avoid overcrowding to reduce stress.
Reef Compatibility: Reef safe with caution. While generally peaceful, they may nip at very small or delicate invertebrates. Monitor behaviour closely when introduced to reef tanks.
Origin and Size: Native to the Indo-Pacific region, Caesio cuning can reach up to 25 cm in length in the wild, though smaller sizes are typical in captivity. This listing is for small specimens suitable for home aquariums.
