Amphiprion latezonatus, commonly known as the Wide-Banded Anemonefish, is a striking clownfish species native to the waters of southern Australia. This tank-bred variety ensures healthier specimens and better adaptation to aquarium life.
Care Level: Suitable for intermediate marine aquarists due to its specific host anemone requirements and moderate care needs.
Temperament: Generally peaceful and social, Amphiprion latezonatus can be kept singly or in pairs. They may show territorial behaviour towards conspecifics or similar clownfish species.
Diet: Omnivorous. Feed a varied diet including high-quality marine pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood to ensure optimal health.
Minimum Tank Size: A minimum of 75 litres (20 gallons) is recommended to provide adequate swimming space and accommodate host anemones.
Reef Safety: With caution. While generally reef safe, they require a suitable host anemone and may occasionally nip at soft corals or sessile invertebrates.
Lighting and Water Flow: Moderate lighting and gentle to moderate water flow are ideal to support both the fish and their host anemones.
Placement: Provide a well-established host anemone such as Entacmaea quadricolor (Bubble Tip Anemone) or Heteractis crispa to encourage natural symbiotic behaviour.
Origin: Southern Australia.
Maximum Size: Up to 12 cm (4.7 inches) in length.
Tank-bred specimens offer improved disease resistance and acclimation compared to wild-caught individuals, making them an excellent choice for marine enthusiasts seeking a unique clownfish species.
