The Amphiprion akallopisos, commonly known as the Skunk Clownfish, is a popular choice for marine aquarium enthusiasts seeking a peaceful and hardy clownfish species. This medium-sized, tank-bred specimen offers vibrant colours and excellent adaptability, making it suitable for both beginner and experienced hobbyists.
Temperament and Compatibility: The Skunk Clownfish is known for its generally peaceful nature, making it compatible with a variety of other peaceful fish and invertebrates. It can be territorial towards conspecifics or other clownfish species, so it is best kept singly or as a mated pair unless housed in a sufficiently large aquarium.
Diet: This species is omnivorous and accepts a wide range of foods including high-quality marine pellets, flakes, frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Regular feeding 1-2 times daily is recommended to maintain optimal health.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 75 litres (approximately 20 gallons) is advised to provide ample swimming space and territory. Stable water parameters with a temperature range of 24-27°C, salinity of 1.023-1.025 SG, and pH between 8.1-8.4 are ideal.
Reef Compatibility: The Skunk Clownfish is considered reef safe and can be kept with corals and other invertebrates without causing harm, provided it is not overly aggressive.
Additional Care Notes: Providing anemones such as Entacmaea quadricolor (Bubble Tip Anemone) can enhance natural behaviours, though it is not essential for their wellbeing. Regular water changes and maintaining excellent water quality will ensure longevity and vibrancy.
