The Amblyeleotris diagonalis and Alpheus spp. symbiotic pair is a remarkable addition to any marine aquarium. Known for their mutualistic relationship, the shrimp goby and snapping shrimp work together to maintain a shared burrow, providing shelter and protection for both species.
Care and Husbandry: These pairs require a well-established marine aquarium with stable water parameters. A minimum tank size of 75 litres is recommended to provide adequate space for burrowing and territorial behaviour. The substrate should be sandy or fine-grained to facilitate burrow construction.
Feeding should include a varied diet of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Both species are generally peaceful and reef safe, making them suitable for community reef tanks.
Compatibility: The pair is compatible with most peaceful fish and invertebrates but should be housed away from aggressive tank mates that may threaten their burrows or safety.
Placement: Position the pair in a quiet area of the tank with ample sandy substrate. Providing live rock nearby can offer additional shelter and foraging opportunities.
