The Naso Lituratus, commonly known as the Naso Tang or Lipstick Tang, is a visually stunning surgeonfish prized for its vibrant orange markings and sleek body shape. The XXXL variant represents a mature, large-sized specimen, making it suitable only for experienced aquarists with ample tank space.
Temperament and Compatibility: This species is generally peaceful but can become territorial, especially in smaller tanks or when housed with similar tangs. It is best kept singly or in a large group in tanks exceeding 300 litres to reduce aggression. Compatible with a variety of other peaceful marine fish, but avoid aggressive or overly territorial species.
Diet: Primarily herbivorous, the Naso Lituratus thrives on a diet rich in marine algae and seaweed. Supplement with high-quality dried seaweed sheets, spirulina, and occasional meaty foods such as mysis shrimp to ensure balanced nutrition.
Tank Requirements: Due to its size and active swimming nature, a minimum tank size of 300 litres is recommended. Provide plenty of open swimming space along with live rock for grazing. Stable water parameters and excellent filtration are essential to maintain health.
Reef Compatibility: With caution. While generally reef safe, this tang may nip at certain soft corals or clam mantles. Monitor behaviour closely in reef setups.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. Requires stable water conditions and a varied diet.
Origin: Indo-Pacific region.
