Tridacna squamosa, commonly known as the Scaly Clam, is a spectacular addition to any mature reef aquarium. This premium 7cm specimen features distinctive scaly protrusions on its shell, adding unique texture and colour to your marine display.
Care Level: Moderate care is required to maintain optimal health. This species thrives under stable water parameters and strong lighting to support its symbiotic zooxanthellae.
Feeding: While Tridacna squamosa derives much of its nutrition from photosynthesis, it benefits from supplemental feeding of phytoplankton or specialised clam foods to promote growth and vitality.
Compatibility & Reef Safety: This clam is reef safe and compatible with most peaceful reef inhabitants. Avoid housing with aggressive fish or invertebrates that may nip at its mantle.
Lighting & Water Flow: Requires moderate to strong lighting (e.g., T5, LED, or metal halide) to support photosynthesis. Water flow should be moderate to low to prevent mantle damage but sufficient to deliver nutrients.
Placement: Position on a stable, sandy or rubble substrate area with ample light exposure. Avoid placing near corals that may sting or overshadow the clam.
Tank Size: A minimum tank size of 100 litres is recommended to provide stable conditions and space for growth.
With proper care, Tridacna squamosa can grow significantly larger and become a striking focal point in your reef aquarium.
