Uca rapax, commonly referred to as the fiddler crab, is a captivating invertebrate prized for its unique claw-waving display and intriguing behaviour. Available in various sizes, these crabs make excellent additions to marine and reef aquariums, provided their care requirements are met.

Care and Husbandry: Uca rapax thrives in well-established marine tanks with stable water parameters. They require a sandy or fine substrate to burrow and forage naturally. A minimum tank size of 30 litres is recommended to provide sufficient space for movement and territory.

Feeding: These crabs are omnivorous scavengers, feeding on detritus, algae, and small invertebrates. Supplement their diet with sinking pellets, algae wafers, and occasional meaty foods such as brine shrimp or finely chopped seafood to ensure balanced nutrition.

Compatibility and Reef Safety: Uca rapax is generally peaceful and reef safe, posing no threat to corals or sessile invertebrates. They coexist well with other peaceful tank inhabitants but may show territorial behaviour towards conspecifics if space is limited.

Special Care: Maintain stable salinity and temperature levels typical of marine environments (salinity 1.023–1.025, temperature 22–26°C). Provide moderate water flow and ensure the substrate remains clean to prevent detritus buildup.
