Pachycerianthus spp. Dark are captivating tube anemones known for their dark, elegant tentacles and unique burrowing behaviour. These invertebrates inhabit soft substrates where they construct protective tubes, making them fascinating additions to mature marine aquariums.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. These anemones require stable water conditions and regular feeding.
Feeding: Pachycerianthus spp. are carnivorous and benefit from meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood offered 2-3 times weekly. Target feeding is recommended to ensure adequate nutrition.
Compatibility & Reef Safety: Generally reef safe, but caution is advised as their long tentacles can sting nearby corals and small fish. Avoid placing them near delicate or slow-moving species.
Placement & Environment: Provide a deep sand bed or soft substrate for tube construction. Moderate water flow and low to moderate lighting are ideal to mimic their natural habitat. Avoid strong currents that may disturb their tubes.
Tank Size: Due to their burrowing nature and feeding needs, a minimum tank size of 75 litres is recommended to maintain stable water parameters and provide sufficient space.
Additional Notes: Pachycerianthus spp. are not commonly tank-bred and may require acclimation. Regular water quality monitoring and stable parameters are essential for their health.
