The Plectorhinchus vittatus, commonly called the Oriental Sweetlips, is a captivating marine fish prized for its distinctive spotted pattern and graceful swimming behaviour. This extra large specimen is suitable for advanced hobbyists who can provide ample space and stable water conditions.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful, the Oriental Sweetlips coexists well with other non-aggressive tank mates. However, due to its size and feeding habits, it is best housed with similarly sized or larger fish to avoid stress or competition.
Diet: This carnivorous species thrives on a varied diet including meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, chopped seafood, and specialised marine pellets. Feeding should be frequent and varied to maintain optimal health.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 500 litres is recommended to accommodate its adult size and swimming needs. Stable water parameters with temperatures between 24-27°C, salinity of 1.020-1.025 SG, and moderate water flow are ideal.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced care is advised due to its size and dietary needs. Regular monitoring and maintenance ensure a healthy environment.
Reef Compatibility: With caution. While generally reef safe, the Oriental Sweetlips may disturb smaller invertebrates or corals during foraging.
