The Xanthichthys auromarginatus, commonly known as the golden-margin triggerfish, is a visually stunning species prized for its vibrant blue body accented with golden edges. This medium-sized male specimen is a peaceful addition to a well-established marine aquarium, offering both beauty and personality.
Temperament and Compatibility: Unlike many triggerfish, Xanthichthys auromarginatus is known for its relatively calm and non-aggressive nature. It can be housed with a variety of other peaceful to semi-aggressive tank mates, but care should be taken when mixing with very small or timid species. It is generally reef safe with caution, as it may nip at some invertebrates.
Diet: This species thrives on a varied diet consisting of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped seafood, and high-quality marine pellets or flakes. Feeding should be done 2-3 times daily to maintain optimal health.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 150 litres (approximately 40 gallons) is recommended to provide ample swimming space and reduce territorial behaviour. The aquarium should be mature with plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding spots.
Water Parameters and Environment: Maintain stable marine conditions with a temperature range of 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 specific gravity, and pH between 8.1 and 8.4. Moderate water flow and lighting are suitable, replicating natural reef environments.
Origin and Size: This species is native to the Indo-Pacific region. The maximum size typically reaches around 25 cm (10 inches) in captivity.
